The centenary of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Chapel unofficially continued its celebrations through the ethereal sounds of Acacia Quartet last Sunday.

The quartet is recognised world-wide, having recorded 12 albums but continues to make Gunnedah a performance stop on tour.

The group consists of Lisa Stewart, Doreen Cumming, Stefan Duwe and Anna Martin-Scrase, all on string instruments.

The chapel’s centenary was not the only milestone of note, with the musicians also celebrating an impressive 15 years as a group.

With a long history of the convent space being used to teach music to students just next door at St Mary’s College, it was fitting to host the music in the holy space.

The group also had a recital in town last year. The Gunnedah Conservatorium brought Acacia Quartet back after receiving positive feedback from crowd members.

Gunnedah Conservatorium’s Phoebe Neil introduced the quartet before it took to the platform to perform.
