Hugo Holmes secured his third Australian title this year, as he was among six Gunnedah Motorcycle Club (MCC) members who rode at last weekend’s Australian Junior Track Championship in Canberra.
Hugo placed first in the 85cc Modified 7 to 12 years and 85cc-150cc 9 to 13 years classes, while fellow Gunnedah rider Jake Straney also competed in these classes.
The first placegetter was among 20 competitors in the 7 to 12 years class, and among 33 competitors in the 9 to 13 years class.
Hugo’s previous Australian title was in Kurri Kurri last month, when he rode in the 85cc Modified Class.
Having now won six Australian titles overall, Hugo has overtaken his tally of NSW titles while his list of achievements also includes an American Motorcyclist Association Grand National title which he won during 2023 in Du Quoin, Illinois.
Gunnedah’s other competitors last weekend were Isaac Cross (65cc 9 to 13 years, 85cc-150cc 9 to 13 years), Violet Hoskinson (125cc-250cc 12 to 16 years girls), Nate Jaeger (200cc-250cc 13 to 16 years) and Tai McNamara (65cc 9 to 13 years), while other competitors came from around Australia.
A spokesperson from Gunnedah MCC said the conditions were fantastic even if the weather was a little cold.
“The ACT Motorcycle Club did an amazing job preparing the track after wet conditions leading up to the event,” the spokesperson said.
Gunnedah riders Isaac Cross, Hugo Holmes, Jake Straney, Tai McNamara, Nate Jaeger and Violet Hoskinson competed in the Australian Junior Track Championship in Canberra.
