The Gunnedah Bulldogs leaguetaggers romped to a huge victory while keeping their tryline uncrossed for the second successive round, as they trounced the Boggabri Kangaroos in last Saturday’s leaguetag clash at Jubilee Oval.

Having started their season with three defeats before scoring eight tries in a 48-0 beating of Wee Waa, the Bulldogs notched 10 tries in their 56-0 triumph on Boggabri soil.

With Jacey Ross and Claire Jones sidelined due to injury, the Bulldogs had only one interchange player in the first half before another player headed home at half-time due to family commitments.

Another injury left Gunnedah a player short for the final five minutes, but the Bulldogs maintained a strong defensive line and did not allow the Kangaroos to register a try.

Dakota Durrant, Jacqueline Jones and Maddy Finlay notched two tries each while Marlee Urquhart, Reanna Paget, Deneka Jones and Zoe Fleming bagged one apiece, with Fleming landing eight conversions.

Durrant and Urquhart scored a try each in the first four minutes, before Jones scored her two tries in the space of five minutes.

Six tries were on the board after 20 minutes, before the rate of scoring somewhat slowed down.

Fleming and Paget had strong games for the victors, as did Tara Wilkinson-Ryan and Grace Mannion.

There were some simple errors from the Bulldogs who also continued a disappointing habit of backchatting the referee, although they were not penalised for it like they were in recent outings.

Finlay said there was slight improvement from the outing against Wee Waa while “being able to keep our defensive line strong” was particularly pleasing.

“Our defence has always won us games, and keeping it strong is very important and keeping Boggabri to nil is proof of that,” she said.
