Gunnedah horse trainer Gavin Groth enjoyed two wins in successive races at the Tamworth Racecourse last Saturday, after enjoying consecutive wins at the Gunnedah-based Riverside Racecourse six days earlier.

As reported last week, the Groth-trained and Mikayla Weir-ridden Injair won race two at Gunnedah before the Groth-trained and Anna Roper-ridden Sian won race three.

Groth also had a third place and a 13th place at Gunnedah that day, on a Soft 5 track.

The Tamworth track was rated a Soft 6 last Saturday as Groth had runners in the first, second and fifth races.

The first race was 1400m and contained a field of just six, with the Groth-trained and Jake Pracey-Holmes-ridden Gloryess scraping home by just 0.2 of a length after being the third favourite.

Gloryess was at or near the back of the pack for a while, before finishing strongly.

It was the first win for Gloryess, following a string of top-five placings.

Race two was also 1400m while there were eight runners, with the Groth-trained and Weir-ridden Pop Quiz winning by a length after being the fifth favourite.

Pop Quiz’s previous victory was at Mildura on July 19 last year.

Race five at Tamworth was 1000m, with the Groth-trained and Shannen Llewellyn-ridden Powerstone coming seventh out of 12 after being the seventh favourite.
