Winter certainly made its presence known during the June long weekend in Gunnedah and surrounds.

The minimum temperature on Monday recorded at Gunnedah Airport according to the Bureau of Meteorology was 0°C, its maximum only reaching 11.1°C. Rain was sporadic, with the airport receiving 1.4 millimetres on Monday.

The Gunnedah Times asked people to send what they were up to on the long weekend.

Heather Sloan had the right idea by keeping warm with a bonfire while camping under the stars and among the gumtrees.

Nicole Rixon said she was, “freezing on the sidelines at State Champs Rugby in Dubbo”.

There was no doubt patrons at the game were cold considering Dubbo Airport managed to break into the negatives on Monday with a minimum temperature of -0.3°C.

Many chose to brave the chill to support local events.

Joanne Keynes was with family at the Gunnedah Greyhound Track last Sunday night for the Ladbrokes Chief Havoc Gunnedah Cup final.

Jess Davis was at the Gunnedah Working Dog Trials at the showgrounds.

Those in the neighbouring shire of Narrabri, may have been a few degrees warmer with a minimum temperature of 4.4°C at Narrabri Airport – but those on Mount Kaputar certainly saw the frost.

Gunnedah Times sister publication, The Courier, had multiple Kaputar tourists sending in snaps of snow that had fallen along the mountainside and walking tracks.

Hayley Hausfeld said she spent her long weekend seeing the Vivid displays and at a Katy Perry concert. In case any readers weren’t already feeling a little jealous (unlike this journalist), Sydney Airport recorded a maximum temperature of 14.5°C and a minimum of 8.8°C.
