Chris Oxford won the main prize in the annual Gunnedah Men’s Open Classic as he had the best Stableford score over the two days, while fellow Gunnedah golfer Luke Streater had the best off-the-stick score.
Local golfers were joined by visitors from The Sands Torquay, Coonabarabran, Manilla, Barraba, Tamworth, Longyard, Coolangatta, Ballina, Tweed Heads, Ocean Shores, The Coast Golf Club, Grafton, Coffs Harbour and Fox Hills, as there were 138 players last Saturday and 90 the following day.
Streater had scratch scores of 68 and 70, while scratch runner-up Tyler Glavocih from Ocean Shores had scores of 73 and 67.
Oxford’s overall Stableford score was 77 points, followed by Zak Kelly with 76 and Rohan Ford with 74.
Playing off a handicap of 19, Oxford placed fifth in the nett winners on day one and tenth on day two, as there were some very tight nett scores.
Lucas Grosser was last Saturday’s nett winner with 41 points, followed by Ken Renton 40, Matthew Hoppe 39 (c/b), Mick Sutcliffe 39 (c/b), Chris Oxford 39 (c/b), Mitch Kelaher 38 (c/b), Tom Major 37 (c/b), Greg Burns 37 (c/b), John Dawson 37 (c/b) and Warren Stacey 36 (c/b).
Brendon Lemon was the nett winner on day two with 43 points, followed by Zak Kelly 42, Rohan Ford 40, Pat Cain 39, Steve Jones 38 (c/b), ‘Fish’ Herring 38 (c/b), Brad Baker 38 (c/b), Ian Jordan 37 (c/b), Daniel Head 37 (c/b) and Chris Oxford 37 (c/b).
Nearest-the-pin (NTP) winners on day one were Mick Sutcliffe (2nd), Peter Kenny (3rd, 2nd shot B grade), Duncan McGregor (7th), Owen Robinson (12th), Rohan Ford (15th, 2nd shot A grade), Jackson Ludlow (16th) and Will Dowe (18th, 2nd shot C grade).
The NTP winners on day two were John Dawson (2nd), Brendon Lemon (3rd, 2nd shot C grade), Zac Wheatland (7th), Chris Oxford (12th), Tyler Glavocih (14th, 2nd shot A grade), Steve Howard (16th) and Matt Sims (18th, 2nd shot B grade).
