The Boggabri Kangaroos moved from equal-fourth to equal-third on the Group 4 rugby league ladder after trouncing the lowly-placed Kootingal-Moonbi Roosters 48-6 at Jubilee Oval last Saturday.

Boggabri found itself on nine competition points along with North Tamworth and Gunnedah, after Norths defeated Gunnedah last Sunday while the second-placed Moree moved to 10 competition points after thrashing the bottom-placed Wee Waa.

On home soil, the Kangaroos scored five converted tries in the first half and three in the second half while their opponents notched one converted try after half-time.

Boggabri’s wingers Tevita Peceli and Josefa Goneduadua continued to wreak havoc, with Peceli bagging a hat-trick on the left and Goneduadua claiming a double on the right while centre Ilaisa Kalokalodrau also scored three tries.

Goneduadua became the first Group 4 first grader to tally 10 tries this season, while Peceli’s tally increased to nine.

The Roosters kept their tryline intact for the first 11 minutes, before the floodgates opened as the Kangaroos piled on five tries in 23 minutes.

Boggabri’s sixth try came about eight minutes into the second half, and then the scoring dried up as the only try in the next 22 minutes came from Roosters winger Jayden Bullock.

Peceli registered the final try in the dying seconds.

In reserve grade, the Kangaroos suffered a somewhat surprising 20-14 loss to the lower-placed Roosters outfit.

Kootingal-Moonbi centre Dewayne Darlington notched a treble as the victors scored four tries to three.

Bailey Toomey, Kyle Capper and Ben Haire scored a four-pointer each for the home side.

The Kangaroos reserve graders found themselves outright fourth, while the Roosters moved to equal-sixth.

While Boggabri’s leaguetag side remained without a win after going down 46-10, this Kangaroos outfit made its equal highest score of the season.

The visitors scored eight unanswered tries before the hosts scored back-to-back tries, followed by one more try to the visitors.

This Sunday will feature a Narrabri Shire derby as the Kangaroos host Wee Waa in first grade, reserve grade and leaguetag.
