Gunnedah horse trainer Sally Torrens achieved a victory as she had three runners in Monday’s race meet at Tamworth Jockey Club.

On a track rated a Soft 5, Torrens had two runners in the first race and one in the second race while there were seven races overall.

Race one was 1600m, with the Torrens-trained Real Housewives placing sixth and the Torrens-trained Deja Zou placing last in a field of 10, after Deja Zou had the longest odds.

Race two was 1200m, with the Torrens-trained and Mikayla Weir-ridden Magic Sorcerer winning by half a length after being the sixth favourite in a field of 11.

It was Magic Sorcerer’s maiden victory, which followed two runner-up placings and a third and a fourth since April 1.

Having been Magic Sorcerer’s trainer since earlier this year, Torrens said the gelding “had been knocking on the door” and had been very consistent.

“He needed the breaks to go his way,” Torrens said.

Torrens said Magic Sorcerer had a good racing style and a lot of gate speed, while the barrier draw was “pretty much perfect” this time.

Magic Sorcerer’s trainer said Weir summed up the situation well, and found a gap just at the right time.

Another Gunnedah trainer, Gavin Groth, had four runners at Tamworth on the same day.

Groth’s best result was a fifth placing while his other placings ranged from eighth to tenth.
