The Gunnedah Red Devils were no match for the Tamworth Pirates in last Saturday’s women’s contest at Pirates Rugby Club, as the home side cantered to a 75-0 victory.

The contest was heavily one-sided, as the Pirates scored 13 tries and would have tallied more than 75 points had there been more than five conversions from 13 attempts.

The Pirates moved to second on the ladder while the Red Devils were relegated to third.

The difference between the two teams on the day was not easy to understand. Although the Red Devils had not played a competitive match for six weeks, they had had a couple of unofficial hit-outs during that time-frame.

The victors had nine different try-scorers, with Jayda Simpson notching a treble while Lauren Daye and Philippa Schoupp notched doubles.

Daye went on to score two tries for Kootingal-Moonbi against Gunnedah on Gunnedah soil in Group 4 leaguetag the following day.

Kootingal-Moonbi’s other tryscorer, Nikki Berryman, also scored a try for the Pirates against the Red Devils.

Of the Gunnedah players, Kate O’Donnell and Kylie Sanderson and Rochelle Costello earned the points in the 3-2-1 voting.

Gunnedah hosts the fifth-placed Moree this Saturday, one week after Moree lost 54-17 to the first-placed Narrabri.
