It was a very successful weekend for the Wicks family after claiming whip cracking and billy boiling title championships at the 2025 Scenic Rim Clydesdale Spectacular (SRCS) held in Beaudesert.

The family competed in the Australian Whipcrackers and Plaiters Association’s Queensland whip cracking and placed highly in all sections.

In the ‘pee wee’ section Abbie Sozou (8) from Tamworth was crowned the champion ribbon from Macey Wicks (5) second and Robbie Wicks (3) fourth place. The children are now gearing up for the Australian titles at the EKKA Brisbane in August.

Abbie capped off a great weekend by also winning the junior under-16 years World Billy Boiling Championships at the tender age of just eight years. Once the eight-year-old started her fire going, she raced away with a convincing win.

Brooke Wicks (Middlemount, Queensland) won the women’s division and placed second in the Queensland bullock whip crack. Brooke is now working hard to fine tune her routine after placing second at the nationals’ event last year.

Daniel Wicks capped off a great day by winning all three sections he competed in. Daniel took out the men’s, open bullock whip and the overall accuracy component.

The SRCS hosted the World Billy Boiling Championships for the men’s and women’s divisions.

Brooke Wicks won her first world title after minor placings over the last 12 years of competition.

In the men’s division, father-son duo of Steve and Daniel Wicks competed alongside each other in the final.

Steve Wicks established a raging fire, however, it was not good enough to hold off Daniel’s fire in the final of the world title.

Daniel placed first in a time of 6:53 minutes to claim his eighth World Billy Boiling Title.

He was followed by Steve in second place (7:15 minutes). Lucus Sarra from Queensland placed third and Cameron Bolton, also from Queensland, fourth.

Gunnedah’s Steve and Narelle Wicks were also presented with life membership for their work with the SRCS event over the years.
