The Gunnedah Bulldogs had their first setback in the Group 4 Mid Season Women’s Tackle competition, as they slid to a 42-0 defeat against the Moree Boars in last Sunday’s round three fixture at Boughton Oval.

Following wins with scorelines of 32-8 and 16-0 in the first two rounds, the Bulldogs were up against it last Sunday as injuries and work commitments hampered the team.

The most decisive factor was player numbers, as the Bulldogs had one interchange player while the Boars usually had five. Moree had 11 players to Gunnedah’s 10 on the field for most of the first half, before the second half featured 10 on 10.

The understrength Bulldogs kept the Boars scoreless in the opening 14 minutes, but then the first try led to an avalanche of tries as Moree posted nine four-pointers in 36 minutes.

Nine Moree players scored one try each, and the margin would have been bigger had more than three conversion attempts been successful.

The Bulldogs women’s rugby league team has a bye this weekend while the leaguetaggers return from a bye as they contest Werris Creek at Kitchener Park on Saturday.
