Generations of history was celebrated at Mullaley recently when the public school celebrated its 140-year anniversary.
A Black and Gold ball marked the anniversary event hosted by the Mullaley Public School P&C at the Mullaley Memorial Hall.
The theme was an acknowledgment to the house colours for sporting events – black and gold.
The evening brought together more than 170 community members, past and present students, staff and supporters for a night of live music from Sam Snape and tributes to the school since its founding in 1885.
Master of ceremonies Andrew Craig of Mullaley, entertained guests who were treated to historical displays showcasing photos and stories from the school’s rich past.
Mullaley local and ex-student of Mullaley PS, Joe Martin, started kindergarten at Mullaley in 1980, but the Martin family has had a long standing involvement with the small school.
“Our family has been associated with Mullaley Public School since 1971 when my cousins Anthony, Maria, Angela and Catherine first began,” Mr Martin said.
“There has been at least one Martin family member enrolled since then until my youngest son Toby finished Year 6 last year, making 2025 the first year with no Martins enrolled since 1971.
“It was a fantastic night and it was great to catch up with people who have had an association with the school and their families.”
Current school principal Maddie Birkett said: “The success of the night was thanks in large part to the incredible efforts of the Mullaley P&C, whose dedication and attention to detail ensured a smooth and memorable event. Their commitment to celebrating this important milestone did not go unnoticed.”
The event was a major fundraising initiative for the P&C, with proceeds going toward enhancing learning resources and student experiences. Major sponsors of the event were also thanked for their contributions.
The Mullaley Public School continues to thrive as a small rural school with a big heart, proudly serving the region for more than a century.
