More than 30 people flocked to Club Gunnedah to listen to local boxers Wade and Enja Ryan, in addition to viewing the Paul Gallen versus Sonny Bill Williams bout on Wednesday last week.
Some of Wade’s and Enja’s title-winning belts were on display, with Enja talking first before her husband spoke to the attendees.
With six wins, two losses and a draw in her nine professional fights, Enja recalled fighting for an Australian title and for an Australasian World Boxing Council (WBC) title which she defended more than once.
Enja earned applause from the attendees for achieving the number one ranking in Australia and the number 15 world ranking.
Enja also recalled fighting as part of Gallen’s undercard at Star Casino, before she went on to say she was supporting Gallen against Williams.
Wade mentioned a few of his 36 pro fights, with his favourite occurring at the Gold Coast where he won after being an 8-1 underdog.
Wade recalled his opponent – Sergei Vorobev who originated in Russia – saying “I must break you” at the weigh-in.
Having once fought Tim Tszyu, Wade said his toughest fight was perhaps the one in France late last year when he lost to Bakary Samake.
One of Gunnedah’s current amateur boxers, Matthew Williams, also briefly spoke to the audience at Club Gunnedah; discussing his recent New England junior heavyweight title which he won in a bout in Tamworth.
