Gunnedah’s fourth grade soccer team bowed out of the finals series in the Tamworth competition, after an unusual 2-1 loss to the Hillvue Rovers at the Gipps Street Sporting Complex.
After surviving week one of the play-offs, the fourth-placed Gunnedah started its clash with the second-placed Hillvue last Friday night but could not complete the fixture until Tuesday night.
Lightning strikes forced the match to be cut short on the Friday, with the Rovers leading 1-0 after three minutes of play had lapsed in the second half.
The fixture resumed four nights later, with Gunnedah up against it due to work commitments impacting the line-up.
Only 10 players lined up for Gunnedah on Tuesday night, while Hillvue had a full team plus subs.
The Rovers doubled their lead before Gunnedah had a player red-carded with just over 15 minutes remaining.
Gunnedah’s Jayden Thomas found the back of the net with full-time looming to make the score look more respectable.
