The Gunnedah Garden Club was invited to hold its October meeting in the beautiful garden setting of Peter and Caroline Mitchell’s property.

The ladies enjoyed morning tea under the shade of the spacious pergola before the commencement of the meeting. Caroline gave a brief talk about the establishment of her garden and later, Peter shared his secret of maintaining his lush kikuyu lawn.

Vice president, Ellen Mitchell, who recently travelled to Canberra to participate in the Masters Games, showed off her gold medals, won for shot put, 60-metre sprint and 1500-metre walk.

Many were amazed with her fitness and athleticism. At the conclusion of the meeting, Ellen thanked Caroline and Peter for their hospitality and presented Caroline with a lovely Christmas Bush.

Members then enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the garden, admiring the tall, vibrant Hollyhocks, colourful Roses and striking Bougainvillea, all growing among the many varieties of flowers, many of which are self-sown. The shady trees were an ideal position for the display of Agapanthus and succulents.

It was a glorious day, enjoyed by all. Next month the Gunnedah Garden Club will have its Christmas luncheon and will go into recess until February.
