Fourteen teams converged at Club Gunnedah to play barefoot bowls at the Westpac Helicopter Charity Day on November 2.

A total of $2,427 was raised for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, with the figure comprising $1,727 from the bowls day and a $700 contribution from the Gunnedah Fishing Club.

There was plenty of fun and laughter on a hot day, while the format was two-bowl triples.

Another feature was live music, courtesy of Al Buchan.

Club Gunnedah marketing manager Tammey McAllan said the event brought awareness to the Westpac Helicopter “and the importance and impact it has on people’s lives”.

Ms McAllan said the event also raised awareness of “the local volunteers that have so much passion for what they do and for Westpac Helicopter”, while there was also “the feeling of the community coming together for a good cause with lots of laughs and fun” at the barefoot bowls.

“(It shows) just how lucky we are to live in Gunnedah and the community we have,” she said.

“We have so many great volunteers and people in general who go out of their way to make a difference.”

Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Gunnedah Volunteer Support Group secretary Heather Welch thanked Ms McAllan for organising and staging the event, while also thanking the Gunnedah Fishing Club for its wonderful support.

For the record, the winning trio comprised Sheree Wheeler, Tom Bartman and Barry Robbins.
