A charity that helps disabled people through equine therapy in Gunnedah will not be operating in 2026 due to a lack of volunteers.
The committee of Gunnedah Riding For The Disabled has announced with “heavy hearts” to close for 12 months from January 2026.
Gunnedah RDA president Richard White said the decision came from the most recent meeting, due to a number of reasons but mainly due to the lack of volunteers to run the riding and carriage driving activities.
“We desperately need ‘younger’ people to step up to fill the void not only to help, but to take on committee positions, supply horses and look after them, pick the participants up from their various abodes and so on,” Richard said.
RDA Gunnedah was founded in 1986 and some of those founders are still on the committee.
“They have given great service to this wonderful community organisation which gives a little joy to those less fortunate,” Richard said.
“The various service organisations, businesses and individuals too have been very generous with donations over the years.
“All the infrastructure remains, so if there is anyone out there who could see their way clear to take up the reins, so to speak, you will receive every support from the existing committee and RDA NSW organisation.”
