Spotlight: LIBRARY EVENTS IN 2026

We have a new year of activities and events ready to launch!

Young children can come along on Tuesdays at 10.30am for Singalong & Storytime and on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10.30am for Book Buddies. These programmes are designed to introduce children to words, rhyme and rhythm in a fun atmosphere.

For school-age children we have Bookends Literacy Assist, where they can read to a supportive senior on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons from 3.00pm, and Junior Brain Games, an interactive session of reading, puzzles and craft held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 3.30pm.

We have Make It! sessions on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 3.30pm. The whole family can come along and create marvellous items to use around the home. This week’s session is Badge Making with Peter Hall on February 11. The cost is $3.00 and bookings are essential, call the library on (02) 6740 2190.

Adults can attend Brain Training sessions on Mondays at 10.30am or 3.30pm at the library, or at Oaktree Retirement Village at 11am. We also have a Knit & Natter group meeting on Saturdays from 9.30am.

For more information about these programmes, call the library on (02) 6740 2190.

Spotlight: GIRLS IN STEM

February 11 is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Did you know that only 35 per cent of STEM graduates are women, and 1 in 10 STEM leaders is a woman? This international day celebrates the remarkable contributions of women in science and raises awareness of gender inequality in science. Why not support your budding scientist by borrowing books for them from our environment (science) collection, or jump online to our eResources, Era Books Online or REDeLEARN, for more science-based learning?

Don’t forget: Join your children up to the library and they will receive a FREE library bag!

Spotlight: NEW BOOKS

Biographer Grantlee Kieza turns his focus to the birth of the Australian wine industry in Mary Penfold (BIOG 994 KIE). The mother, business leader and pioneering vintner transformed her garden vineyard into a empire that supplied not only Australia’s demand for high-quality wine, but thirsty export markets as well.

Darry Fraser has returned with your new favourite read, The Adventuress of Albany (AFA FRA). Molly Bentley has always yearned for adventure, so when her father offers to send her half-way around the world to bustling Albany, Western Australia, she readily agrees. Until she is knocked down in the street and a threatening note is slipped into her hands. Suddenly Molly and her chaperone, Mrs Caldicott, must reckon with darker motives…

Of Flame and Fury (YAF BRI) by Mikayla Bridge is available to borrow. Phoenix racing: it’s profitable, it’s deadly. When Kel Varra and her crew are offered a place at a state-of-the-art training facility, of course they accept. But embroiled in political scheming phoenix magic and a smouldering romance, a conspiracy soon threatens them all.

If books are your escape, your library is wonderland!
