Spotlight: WE LOVE LIBRARIES!
February 14 is Library Lovers’ Day, when we share our love of libraries, big and small. We want you to know the wonderful things you can find at your local library.
There are books – of all shapes and sizes – but you can also borrow magazines and audiobooks. If you are time-poor, we can put together a bag of books for you to collect or, if you work within the CBD area, we can deliver them to you. If you are elderly or unwell and find it difficult to get to the library, we will deliver books to you. You don’t even need to set foot in the library door; once you have your library card you can borrow from our range of e-resources. We have programmes for all ages, and services like photocopying and printing, scanning, and Justices of the Peace. Call the library on (02) 6740 2190 to find out more.
There are spots vacant at our Junior Brain Games sessions each fortnight. If your child is looking for something to do after school and enjoy puzzles and craft, then this might be the solution. Each session is broken up into three areas: a story and discussion, puzzles and games, and a fun craft to finish. It is FREE to join and aimed at ages 7+. The next session will be Wednesday, February 18 at 3.30pm. Call the library on (02) 6740 2190 to book your place.
Remember: if you child joins the library, they get a free library bag!
Spotlight: BIOGRAPHIES
We have a brand-new batch of biographies ready to be borrowed!
Biographies, autobiographies and memoirs are a great way to learn about someone else’s life and step into their shoes for just a moment. An autobiography is the life story of a person, written by them, while a biography is written by another person – perhaps a professional writer or friend/family member. A memoir is different, as it is the writer reflecting on important experiences or emotions in their life, relying heavily on their memory.
Spotlight: NEW BOOKS
How They Get You (332 KOH) by Chris Kohler, is a guided tour through the rigged carnival of modern life. It pulls back the curtain on how loyalty schemes, gift cards and late fees aim to steal your hard-earned money. You will walk away with clarity and confidence to make better choices.
Joanna Nell’s new book, The Funeral Crashers (AFA NEL), is available to borrow. When retired academic Martin meets widowed Grace they become funeral crashers, aiming to give each funeral recipient a hearty send-off. But the outcomes might be unexpected…
Always Home, Always Homesick (994 KEN) by Hannah Kent is a love letter to the land that inspired Burial Rites, an ode to the power of creativity, and an invitation to join the realms of mystery, spirit and wonder.
Come and visit the library, you never know what you will discover!
