A team of four from CrossFit Gunnedah earned a top-three placing in The Trinity Throwdown at the Liverpool City-based Michael Clarke Recreation Centre on Saturday February 7.
There were male, female and mixed teams in the Advanced, Elevate, Intermediate and Masters divisions, with about 80 teams competing across the board.
Each team competed in four intense and gruelling workouts, with six scoring events while two workouts were a two-part.
The CrossFit contingent of Issy Bieman, Miah Bryant, Andrew Denovan and Jake Manley finished equal-second in the Mixed Advanced major division, after contesting teams from Sydney, Wollongong and Canberra.
The Gunnedah team finished third on a countback, following a tiebreaker.
CrossFit Gunnedah logged some of the biggest lifts of the day, with Denovan and Manley each recording an in competition personal best (PB) 115kg in the Clean and Jerk.
Bieman celebrated with an all-time PB of 85kg, while Bryant also came away with an in competition PB of 90kg and the biggest lift by a female on the day.
Although the Gunnedah team had prepared for a couple of months, some of its members battled niggling injuries in the fortnight leading up to the day of competition.
CrossFit’s owner and head coach Josh Stevenson said, “Just four days out they weren’t even sure if they would compete, but it all came together and they were fighting fit on the day.
“The team performed exceptionally well consolidating on workouts that provided movement challenges to those injuries, but truly capitalising on the workouts that could shine including a max muscle up event and the most hyped event which was a max weight Clean and Jerk.”
