St Mary’s College-based (Gunnedah) student Josh Spinks earned NSW selection, as he and sister Katie were among more than 2200 secondary students to participate in the NSW All Schools Triathlon in Penrith last week.
Josh was in the junior boys triathlon and aquathlon, while Katie was in the intermediate girls aquathlon.
The triathlon involved a 300m swim, 5km bike ride and 1200m run, while the aquathlon involved a 300m swim and a 1200m run.
The NSW All Schools Aquathlon was held after the individual triathlon events. Both events were four events in one, with the NSW All Schools Championships also including the NSW Combined High Schools (CHS), NSW Independent Schools and NSW Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) championships.
The top six in each division made the NSW team for the School Sport Australia Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships at Runaway Bay in Queensland later this month.
Josh finished eighth overall in the junior boys triathlon (and fourth in the NSWCCC) and fifth overall in the junior boys aquathlon (and third in the NSWCCC), to qualify for the NSW aquathlon team.
Katie’s best result in Penrith was eighth in the NSWCCC component of the aquathlon.
