Gunnible Landcare held their annual ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ on the banks of the Namoi River earlier this month.

Gunnible Landcare started as a small group of people North of the Namoi at Gunnedah some 28 years ago.

This year’s Clean Up Australia Day was successful, despite limited numbers in attendance, and they were able to fill up a trailer full of rubbish.

This year, the group said, E-cigarettes, or vapes, were one of the most found pieces of rubbish.

The group also cleared a mattress.

Along with clearing rubbish, Landcare Group members also cleared flood debris on the Avenue Trees along Kelvin Road and replaced a handful of silky oak trees.

After the clean up, members enjoyed morning tea which had been provided through the $1000 Coles voucher they received last year through their Clean Up Australia promotions.

March is shaping up to be a busy time for the group.

Gunnible Landcare will be conducting an interesting meeting and presentations in relation to historic flood heights, the impact of Keepit Dam Flood releases, as well as the impact of Common Myna bird infestations.

On Thursday, March 19, Gunnible Landcare will hold an AGM.

Gunnible Landcare are open to memberships throughout the Gunnedah Shire. If you wish to join you can contact Margaret Hood either through her mobile, 0457421503 or via email, [email protected] (as advertised).
