Club Gunnedah Bowls held a successful three-day carnival over the Easter weekend with teams from Sydney, Central Coast, North Coast, Manildra and all over the North West participating.

The Peter Green Memorial Cup attracted a quality field of 28 teams, with five rounds of bowls held on the Friday and Saturday with the top-eight teams doing battle in a knockout format on the Saturday afternoon.

There were plenty of upsets in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, with Andrew Shearer and Greg Hodge from Nambucca Heads making it through to the final after qualifying in eighth spot.

The teenage duo of Tim Thorning (formerly of Club Gunnedah and now with Scone) and Cooper Fliedner (Manildra) battled its way through to the final to meet the Nambucca duo, with Thorning and Fliedner winning the Peter Green Memorial Cup and the $3000 winners’ cheque.

Last Sunday, 14 teams contested a three-bowls pairs event with players alternating skip and lead positions after five ends of each match.

The team of Sam Pryor (formerly of Club Gunnedah and now with Lightning Ridge) and Daniel Crockett (Quirindi) survived a very close win in the semi-finals to go on and win the final and the $1500 winners’ cheque.

Runners-up were Trevor Clay and Jeff Gallagher of Wenty Leagues.
