Two teenage boys were charged following an alleged aggravated break and enter in Moree.
Police were called to a home on Jones Avenue about 2.45am on Sunday, March 15, after reports of a break-in.
Officers were told a 61-year-old woman was woken by loud banging at her front door before two unknown individuals entered the home and allegedly demanded the keys to her car.
The pair allegedly took the keys to a Land Rover before reversing the vehicle into another car parked in the driveway. Police allege they then crashed into the front fence, causing further damage, before driving off west along Jones Street.
About 2.55am on Sunday, March 15, the vehicle was sighted at the intersection of Blueberry Road and the Newell Highway. Police attempted to stop the car, however, when it allegedly failed to comply, a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
Around 6.30am on Sunday, March 15, officers sighted two individuals allegedly attempting to gain entry to a home on Boston Street. Upon seeing police, the pair allegedly ran from the scene before being arrested in the rear yard of a home on Chester Street.
They were taken to Moree Police Station where the older boy was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent to commit a serious indictable offence, destroying or damaging property, disguising his face with intent to commit an indictable offence, taking and driving a conveyance without the owner’s consent, and a police pursuit offence.
The younger boy was charged with being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, aggravated break and enter with intent to commit a serious indictable offence, disguising his face with intent, and being carried in a conveyance taken without the owner’s consent.
Both boys were refused bail and appeared before a children’s court on Sunday, March 15.
