Two teenage boys have been charged as part of an investigation by the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team (NSW JCTT).
In December 2025, officers attached to New England Police District commenced an investigation after receiving information a teenager was allegedly accessing extremist material online.
Following extensive inquiries, on Friday, March 27, investigators executed a commonwealth search warrant at a home in Moree.
During the search, police allegedly seized a mobile phone, a ballistic-style vest, and several notebooks.
A 15-year-old boy was charged and remains before the courts.
Following forensic examination of the seized items, the matter was referred to the NSW JCTT and on Thursday, April 2, NSW Police and AFP investigators executed search warrants at two homes in Moree.
Police allegedly located and seized a number of handwritten notes and pieces of literature alleged to contain extremist references.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested about 10am and taken to Moree Police Station. He was charged with use carriage service – transmit violent extremist material and knowingly collect/make document connected with terrorism.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested about 11.30am and taken to Moree Police Station. He has since been charged with use carriage service-possess violent extremist material.
Both teenagers were refused bail and appeared before Parramatta children’s court on Friday, April 3.
