Elaine Eather has been recognised for more than five decades of volunteering and community service, taking out the title of Boggabri Lions Senior of the Year.
Mrs Eather’s contribution to the community began in the early 1970s when she joined the Boggabri State Emergency Service, serving for 35 years and supporting the town through emergencies and local needs.
In 1980, through her husband’s involvement with the Boggabri Lions Club, she became involved with the Lions Ladies, where she began delivering Meals on Wheels. Decades later, she continues to provide this service independently, ensuring local residents remain supported.
While raising her four children, Mrs Eather was an active member of the Boggabri Public School community. She served on the P&C, assisted in the canteen, supported school activities and accompanied excursions, contributing significantly to school life during those years.
Her long-standing commitment to the community also includes 36 years assisting with cleaning at St Barnabas Community Church, a role she has carried out quietly and consistently.
Mrs Eather has also been involved with the Boggabri Drovers Campfire since its inception nearly 20 years ago. Over that time, she has assisted with event set-up, cleaning, operations during the event and pack-up. In earlier years, she contributed by taking aerial photographs for the event’s records.
Today, she continues to volunteer at the campfire where possible and also supports the next generation of volunteers by caring for her great-grandchildren so their parents can remain involved.
Widely regarded as a dedicated and reliable community member, Mrs Eather’s lifelong commitment to helping others has made a lasting impact on Boggabri.
Her recognition as Senior of the Year reflects decades of quiet service and an enduring commitment to her community.
