King Street house destroyed in blaze

A HOUSE in King Street, Gunnedah, has been destroyed after a fast-moving fire took hold on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at around 4pm, with Pumper 314 and Pumper 229 from Boggabri and Gunnedah Rural Fire Service crews responding to the incident.

The fire spread rapidly through the house and took firefighters nearly two hours to bring under control. Despite their efforts, the house was completely destroyed.

Fire crews were supported at the scene by NSW Ambulance, NSW Police and Essential Energy crews.

Authorities have also expressed disappointment at the number of spectators who travelled to the scene, with people attempting to drive and walk into the area during the emergency.

The resulting traffic congestion delayed the arrival of several firefighters who were responding in their private vehicles.

Emergency services are reminding the public to avoid attending emergency incidents unless directly involved, as keeping access routes clear allows responders to reach the scene as quickly and safely as possible.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up for the occupants of the property.

The house was uninsured and a local family has lost everything in the blaze.
