Local students with their sights set on the future can now apply for the 2027 round of the Gunnedah Community Scholarship Fund.
The community-fuelled fund is for all local students under the age of 25 who are seeking to further their education or training at a university, TAFE, or an accredited training organisation, and meet the eligibility criteria.
Scholarship Fund Working Group chair Cr Linda Newell said the initiative provided a great opportunity for young people to gain some practical support.
“Everyone is feeling the pinch of the rising costs of living, and it’s even more difficult when you’re trying to focus on your studies,” Cr Newell said.
“We want to help take some of that pressure off by providing funds that can go towards essentials like relocation and other travel costs, textbooks, living expenses, and tuition fees.
“Our community wants to give our young people the best start in their studies, so I encourage them to apply for the 2027 round.”
Earlier this year, 31 young people were given a headstart in their tertiary education pursuits, thanks to the fund.
More than 550 scholarships have been awarded since the fund’s inception in 2003.
