St Vincent de Paul Society elects new president

St Vincent de Paul Society conference members gathered recently to elect a new president and take part in safeguarding and compliance training.

Long-serving member John Stanley was elected unopposed to the leadership role, replacing the late Veronica Shakeshaft who lost her battle with cancer on 19 April.

Veronica had been a dedicated member for many years before taking on the president’s position and has been sadly missed.

John Stanley has been involved with the conference since 2010 and has served as treasurer for several years.

His role as a member also includes welfare interviews and acting on cases as required.

He has also been responsible for ordering and receiving non-perishable food items for the society’s food pantry and has attended regular conferences around the region.

The safeguarding and compliance training was delivered by SVDP society community engagement officer Scott Martin and

schools and youth engagement co-ordinator Cassie Croft, who

travelled from Armidale for the seminar and chaired the election process.
