Gunnedah South Public School embraced R U OK? Day, a national initiative dedicated to encouraging meaningful conversations and checking in on one another’s wellbeing, on 10 September.
The school was filled with yellow as students and staff took a moment to check in on each other – asking the simple but powerful question: “R U OK?”, and highlighting the importance of connection, support and kindness.
It was perfectly timed to have the Life Education van at the school, supporting wellbeing and positive conversations.
Gunnedah South Public School principal Nicki Walsh said R U OK? Day is not just about one day but about fostering a culture where everyone feels safe to share how they feel every day.
“We want our students to know that asking someone if they’re okay can truly make a difference and that every student in our school is known, valued and cared for,” Mrs Walsh said.
The amazing canteen staff, led by Mrs Megan Duff, made the day even more special with a sea of yellow snack options available.
The most popular treat was the yellow cupcakes, which sold out quickly, bringing smiles to many faces and adding a sweet touch to the day.
Gunnedah South Public School remains committed to nurturing a supportive environment by continuing the conversations well beyond 10 September and encouraging everyone to check in on family, friends and colleagues every day.
