Incoming Boggabri first grade coach Nick Millar will maintain a strong focus on club culture as he takes the coaching reins of the Kangaroos.

Millar’s appointment was announced by the Roos recently after long-standing and respected club leader Shane Rampling had earlier announced that the 2026 season would be his last.

Rampling had served as first grade coach for eight seasons in what will be remembered as a strong period of development for the club, including playing in the 2024 first grade grand final.

What was initially meant to be a brief six-month playing stint, alongside his brother Nathan, has instead turned into many years of involvement for Millar.

Millar arrived in Boggabri to play from the 2019 season and has become a revered figure in the club.

“It’s been good. I love it,” Millar said of being involved with the Roos.

“It’s a great club. I’ve really enjoyed being here.”

Millar had spent this season away from the club, playing with a mate at Coolah.

He’s ready to lead the Roos for the next Group 4 season as a playing coach and is eager to build on the strong club culture that had been developed by Rampling.

“My big thing is club culture … everyone getting behind each other,” he said.

“Winning footy is a plus but everyone having fun on the field and off the field is my biggest thing.

“Obviously winning games makes that more enjoyable.”

Millar said he was proud to continue the example that has been set by Rampling.

“He was there for a long time. He’s someone who shaped the club to the way it is at the moment,” he said.

“He’s done an unreal job … trying to get players to the little town of Boggabri. It’s pretty bloody hard and he’s done it.”

Joining Millar in the first grade leadership is assistant coach Jack Hayes.

Millar has enjoyed his journey with the Roos alongside Hayes in recent years.

The two are lifelong mates and started playing together as juniors in Kempsey.

Hayes started with the Roos almost five years ago.

Both share a strong passion for the club and are eager to see it succeed in the Group 4 competition.
