Thirty members and guests attended the September meeting for the Gunnedah Garden Club in the lovely garden of Marg Kersely, just out of town.

Recently retired librarian Christiane Birkett was welcomed as a new member.

The hostess for the day was Sue Walker and Pam Shaw sold tickets for the raffle, which was donated by Robyn Clydsdale.

Lyn Sanson discussed the bus trip to Coonabarabran for the Garden Trail, visiting seven gardens, starting with morning tea at the CWA hall.

Sue Braby was the raffle winner.

President Robyn Clydsdale was congratulated as her landscape photograph was selected for the 2027 GCA calendar. Julia Withers also had a smaller photo displayed on the calendar.

Sandra Tydd (welfare), reported about the loss of our patron Esma Gardner. $100 was donated to the Cancer Council in her memory, in lieu of flowers and Helen Murrell spoke of Esma’s time with the club. Although not actually a founding member, she did join in the very early years.

Helen recalled a time when Esma organised fundraising for the club by doing the flowers for weddings, with members gathering flowers from local gardens. Esma was a very proud gardener and won several community awards for her beautifully kept garden.

Sisters Sandra Tydd and Chris Brooks enjoy morning tea.

Julia Withers won many prizes at the Presbyterian Spring Flower Show. She had an amazing 37 entries and still managed to host an open garden on the day.

Robyn Clydsdale went to the Tenterfield Spring Garden Expo, returning with great garden advice. Never leave the top soil bare as most of the microbes live in the top two inches. So, do not flip the soil, just push the fork in and wiggle it to loosen it up. Use worm castings, placing them in a bucket of water and stir, first clockwise, then anticlockwise, then water the garden. Nature’s best.
