NINETY-three golfers hit the fairways at Gunnedah West Golf Club on Sunday 19 July for the annual Rotary Charity Golf Day, raising money for local charities and Rotary Mental Health research.

The event, organised by the Rotary Club of Gunnedah West, has become a fixture on the local sporting and community calendar, drawing players from across the region for a day of competition and fundraising.

Manning the Rotary barbecue were Karen Neader, Doug Brown, Will Lyle and Maryann Whitton.

The day’s signature award, the Ian Carrington Memorial Trophy, was presented to Team Dorrington who scored 53⅜, with Team White/Mannion coming in at second place on 54¼.

The Golf Charity Day was first held in 1997 with next year marking 30 years of the event.

“A big thank you to over 30 local businesses and individuals who sponsored our event, who without, Rotary West would not be able to help other charities,” spokesperson Lewis Donaldson said.

“A massive thank you to Rotarian Bruce Higham too, who was instrumental in making the day happen.

“It was a great day and a fantastic turnout. We hope to see everyone back next year for an even bigger day to mark 30 years of the competition.

“Half of the money raised goes directly back into the local community, with the other half helping all important research into mental health.”

The Rotary Club of Gunnedah West was chartered in 1970, with members raising funds to support local, district, national and international charities.
