GUNNEDAH and District Soccer Association’s under-9s team returned home as victors following a grand final win at the Wauchope soccer gala day.
The boys, who were again coached by Paul Hickman, claimed the title in extra time against Port Macquarie City.
The Gunnedah Guns made the four-and-a-half-hour trek through the mountains in the hope of adding to their medal haul following a previous win at a Moree carnival in June.
Association officials praised the boys for representing Gunnedah with determination, teamwork, sportsmanship and plenty of smiles along the way.
Hickman was also thanked for his dedication.
“The time, effort and commitment Paul puts into this team is truly admirable. From training and game days to travelling across the state, his dedication to helping these kids develop, improve and enjoy their football does not go unnoticed,” the association said.
“A massive thank you to all the parents who support their kids, make the long trips, organise the weekends and give them the opportunity to travel across NSW, experience different carnivals and play football against teams from all over.
“These are the weekends and memories these kids will remember for years to come.”
