Gunnedah golfers take on Wauchope in club competition

Gunnedah Golf Club golfers competed against visiting Wauchope players in two team events, with strong scores recorded across the competitions.

In the four-ball best-ball Stableford event on Saturday 17 October, D Laurie and S Berry led the Gunnedah contingent with 45 points.

M Osmond and P Jarrat finished second for Gunnedah on 44 points, while G Cruickshank and K Sheridan claimed third with 43 points on a countback.

W McIntosh and P Brooks finished fourth with 43 points.

Wauchope also produced a winning score of 45 points, with B Baker and P Cook taking first place on a countback ahead of I Lavender and A Towel, who also scored 45 points.

A O’Brien and R Brown finished third for Wauchope with 43 points on a countback, followed by D Tydd and D McDonald on 43 points.

Nearest-the-pin honours went to D Laurie in A-grade on the second hole, Ross in B-grade on the second hole, and B Baker in A-grade on the 12th hole. No hit was recorded in C-grade on the second hole.

D McDonald won the 12th-hole C-grade nearest-the-pin with a shot of 35cm, while A Rees took the 16th-hole A-grade honour with 161cm. K Worboys won the 16th-hole B-grade nearest-the-pin with 161cm, and B Baker claimed the second-shot A-grade prize at 285cm.

D Marshall won the second-shot B-grade competition with 107cm, while B Tudgey took the second-shot C-grade honour at 31cm.

In the four-person Ambrose event played on Sunday 18 October, Brock Beasley, Joseph Bower, Shaun O’Dell and Travis Blanch combined for a winning nett score of 55.875.

John Dawson, Stephen Jones, Brendon Dodds and Jeff Rogers finished second with 56.375 nett, followed by Paul Bennett, Brad Baker, Paul Cook and Adrian Guest on 56.875 nett.

Sam Elphick, Rod Franklin, Sonny Hackney and Barry Turner finished fourth with 58.75.

Nearest-the-pin winners were Brad Baker on the second hole at 105cm, Shane Wilson on the seventh at 224cm, Steve Jones on the 12th at 293cm and Paul Jarratt on the 16th at 1182cm.

The ball competition was won with a score of 60.5 nett on a countback.
