By Gunnedah Shire Council mayor Colleen Fuller
Once again, Gunnedah Shire has been faced with flooding and will need to keep a close eye on the weather in days to come.
However these rain events effect you – whether your home, your animals or even you are in danger – we are lucky enough to have so many agencies that are there to help.
I would especially like to thank the people at SES who are at hand to help others, even when they are facing difficulties themselves. These people make a huge difference in times of trouble.
Remember never to drive through floodwaters, and to call triple zero in an emergency situation.
The rising river is a very timely reminder of the measures that continue to be put in place following our last flood events.
Among them is the establishment of the Flood Risk Management Committee, a committee to provide strategic advice to council in relation to floodplain risk management.
Council is calling for interest for two community representative positions on this committee.
If you think you have valuable insights to give on this committee, you can apply before 5pm on Thursday, April 24, 2025. The details and nomination form are available on council’s website on www.gunnedah.nsw.gov.au
At the March council meeting, council also endorsed the final concept design for the Gunnedah Youth Space.
This is a really exciting design for a wonderful youth space where the Gunnedah Skate Park is now, and it includes a wide range of activities and interactive spaces for young people.
Council has consulted with the community and stakeholders, and the final concept design reflects changes as a result of that consultation.
Council can now seek funding opportunities to bring this dream to life.
