Twenty debutants and their partners danced under the twinkling lights of the Gunnedah Town Hall for the 2025 Catholic Debutante Ball. Friday evening had a theme of ‘Petals and Pearls’ with a stage backdrop and table decor to complement.
The young ladies were presented to vicar general of the Armidale Diocese Monsignor Wilkes, parish priest Father Abmar and matron of honour Leisa Shortis.
The night was navigated by master of ceremonies Malcolm Frend.
Dances to Only Everything by Quinn Lewis, Can I Be Him by James Arthur and Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars was choreographed by instructors Michelle Cobb and Sienna Mitchell and was beautifully executed after weeks of practice.
The crowd made up of about 250 people adored flower girl Andie Duff, daughter of Nick and Rachael Duff and page boy Henry Frend, son of Malcolm and Casey Frend.
The ball was organised by the Combined Catholic Schools P & F Executive Committee, which serves as a fundraiser for schools.
President of the Combined Catholic Schools P & F Megan Ellbourn said the committee will change roles in May after serving three years in their current positions.
“We look forward to supporting the incoming committee to continue the tradition of the Catholic Debutante ball in Gunnedah,” she said.
Other officials on the night in attendance were Gunnedah Shire Council mayor Colleen Fuller with her husband, Ron, St Xavier’s Primary School principal Jen Honner with her husband, Gerald, St Mary’s College K-12 learning and community coordinator Adam Mooney, with his wife Tarra.
