Melbourne picture book illustrator Marjory Gardner was at four schools in the Gunnedah district this week, and the game was on to have fun drawing.
Children at Curlewis Public School, Gunnedah Public School, Carroll Public School and Mullaley Public School enjoyed seeing Marjory’s folio full of drafts and finished illustrations, and picture books. She took them through a series of fun drawings exercises: elephants, koalas, kangaroos, giraffes, Easter bunnies and more, and gave them tips on how to make their drawings zing.
“It was wonderful to meet such motivated, enthusiastic children, who were very excited to learn some new techniques and have a go!” Marjory said.
“I hope they all keep drawing, and developing their own, individual style.”
Marjory is one of three judges of the Oz Kids Annual Art Awards, run by the Children’s Charity Network (CCN). The Art (and Writing) Awards encourage literacy and creativity in children from Prep to Year 12, and are open to all Australian students. There are four categories: Drawing, Painting, Photography and Computer Art, as well as Indigenous Awards.
Thanks to sponsorship, CCN also sends illustrators and authors to present workshops in remote schools all around Australia.
Carroll Public School students show off their art at the drawing workshop.
