Luigi and Giovanna (Jan) Capezio were surprised by their family with a 60th anniversary celebration.

What was meant to be a lunch in the heart of Sydney to commemorate the milestone turned also into a renewal of their vows at All Hallows Catholic Parish, Five Dock.

They also received a plaque from Pope Francis – not long before his passing. This was their second message from the Pope, after also being given one for their 50th anniversary.

Both Luigi and Giovanna came to Australia in 1955, but on different ships and times. While Giovanna lived in Sydney, Luigi settled into Gunnedah life straight away.

Years later, they would travel to see each other during their courtship before Giovanna moved to Gunnedah a week before their wedding on March 27, 1965.They had a small wedding at St Joseph’s Church with guests being Luigi’s workmates along with friends who travelled from Quirindi, Sydney and Colly Blue.
