The Hot Potato Band (HPB) will call Gunnedah home for three days next week and there will be many opportunities for the school students to participate in a workshop as well as the community see them perform.

Hot Potato Band’s larger-than-life brass collective is a breath of fresh air with a focus on setting the bar for energetic and interactive musical performances. With two studio albums under their belts, they continue to explore the sonic possibilities of acoustic instrumentation. Finding home in Sydney, Australia, they have spent the last 10 years independently curating and touring shows across Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the Middle East.

HPB’s music transcends genres, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere at every show. They have reinvented the traditional brass band as a modern day dance machine and visual spectacle to complement their strong sense of pride for their fun-loving, organic, and quirky musical nature.

Gunnedah Conservatorium director Rebecca Ryan is encouraging people to not miss out on this opportunity after last year’s HPB visit had excitement high in the community.

“It is rare we see the same artist two years in a row in our program, we’ve just had so much excitement and such a great response from the crowd – we just had to invite them back this year for even more school engagement and workshops as well as the Community Concert,” she said.

“Given Gunnedah’s strong brass band culture, this might be a partnership that the conservatorium will continue to grow over the coming years!”

The week will finish with a Community Concert on Thursday May 15, with everyone invited!

The concert will be a seated, however the conservatorium has made sure to clear space for a dance floor. And with the energetic sounds of HPB, it will be hard to resist bopping to the music. Find tickets on the Gunnedah Conservatorium’s website.
