The Gunnedah Bulldogs fell to their fifth defeat from as many matches in the AFL North West senior men’s competition, as the Tamworth Kangaroos prevailed by 61 points at Tamworth No. 1 Oval last Saturday.
The 17.11.113 to 7.10.52 result was a little better than when the teams met back in round two, when the Kangaroos won by 78 points.
Gunnedah was in contention at quarter-time last Saturday as the margin was 13 points, but then the visiting side was kept scoreless in the second term while the hosts pressed ahead.
The Kangaroos scored 5.3.33 to the Bulldogs’ 3.2.20 in the first term, before the former kicked two goals and three behinds in the next quarter.
The visitors kicked 2.4.16 in each of the final two quarters while their opponents landed 5.3.33 and 5.2.32 respectively.
Rhett Graham booted six majors for the winners, and Matthew Hall bagged three while Nicholas Buckland nabbed two.
Six Kangaroos kicked one goal apiece while Bulldogs duo Mason Louis and Malcolm Roberts did likewise, with Gunnedah’s Daniel Pass notching a hat-trick of goals while player-coach Jakob Vearing completed a double.
The Bulldogs have an acid test on home soil this Saturday as they contest the equal-first and reigning two-time premier Inverell, which trounced Gunnedah by 124 points back in round one.
