Gunnedah had five first placegetters and a runner-up in round seven of the North West Regional Matchplay (RMS) tennis series, which took place at the Tamworth courts on Sunday June 15.
Zahra Scott, Lachlan Finnerty, Millie Lyle, Phoebe Neilsen and Sophie Neilsen were Gunnedah’s winners while Charli Scott was Gunnedah’s sole second placegetter.
Zahra won the U8 girls division for the fourth time, while Lachlan won the U10 boys division for the first time after winning the U12 boys division back in round two.
The U10 boys semi-finals featured Gunnedah competitors Lachlan, Baxter Royall and Louis Rouse, who had won the division in rounds three and six.
Lachlan accounted for Louis in round seven, and Baxter went down 8-6 in the tiebreak against Tamworth’s Taylor Cattle in a very tight semi-final.
Taylor finished runner-up to Lachlan.
Millie’s win was her fifth in the U10 girls division, while Charli was runner-up for the third time. It was also the second time Charli was the runner-up to Millie after previously being the runner-up to another Gunnedah competitor, Belle Nichols.
Phoebe’s victory was her first in the U12 girls division while her sister Sophie won the U16 girls division for the fourth time, with Sophie having also placed second on two occasions.
Other divisions that were contested were U8 boys, U12 boys, U14 boys and girls, U16 boys and open men’s.
There were 80 competitors from a mix of Gunnedah, Tamworth, Narrabri, Armidale, Inverell and Moree.
Round eight will be played in Glen Innes on July 27.
