The Gunnedah Bulldogs men hit a new low in their AFL North West campaign, as they slumped to their heaviest defeat of the season last Saturday while fielding a depleted team.
The Bulldogs went down 23.26.164 to 4.3.27 against the equal-first Tamworth Swans at Riverside 5, after losing their previous matches this year by margins from 30 to 124 points.
Last Saturday’s showdown was moved from Tamworth No. 1 Oval, following rain in the lead-up.
Andy Mack came out of retirement to play for the Bulldogs, who had a starting team of 16 players as well as two interchange players while there were 12 absentees.
The Swans showed no mercy, and could have posted a score closer to 200 had they been more accurate with shots on goal.
The home side kicked six goals and 10 behinds in the first term, while Joe Montague and Mack kicked a major each for the visitors.
Three majors and six behinds took the Swans’ score to 9.16.70 at half-time, while the Bulldogs managed only three behinds in the second quarter.
A goal from Daniel Pass produced Gunnedah’s only score in the third term while the Swans stretched the margin to 94 points.
The Bulldogs also registered a lone goal in the final term – Mack kicking this one – while the Swans upped the ante with seven goals and seven behinds.
Fifteen different Swans players kicked at least one major each, with Lachlan Bennetts-Inkster, Nick Fisher and Kaleb Crowhurst achieving trebles while Zach Collier and Luke Fisher nabbed doubles.
The Bulldogs have a bye this weekend.
