Gunnedah Shire Council mayor Colleen Fuller was last night expected to seek approval for a regional summit to be held in Gunnedah.
The mayoral minute was scheduled to be heard at council’s September meeting on Wednesday evening.
The minute requested that council write to the NSW Premier requesting a Rural and Regional Summit in Gunnedah with the themes of the summit to be health, roads and crime.
It was also proposed that council allocate a budget of $10,000 to cover any expenses associated with facilitating the summit should the request be granted, with the funding to be drawn from unrestricted general working capital.
The latest event proposal follows Gunnedah’s hosting of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Conference in November 2023. This conference brought together local government, community service providers, and other practitioners to discuss crime prevention and community safety.
