Gunnedah’s livestock selling centre has recorded one of its biggest sales with 5197 total head sold this week.
Gunnedah Saleyards president Tim Walsh said the previous record was suggested to be in 1991 where 4933 were sold in a single sale.
He said prices held up well and highlighted how drier parts of the state had likely driven up sale numbers in Gunnedah.
“A very dry autumn in Southern NSW forced breeders to move their stock to the greener pastures in our area, resulting in a record sale on Tuesday in Gunnedah,” Mr Walsh said.
Local stud stock selling agent Scott Cooper said it was biggest sale he had seen at Gunnedah in his 30-year career.
His agency alone sold 1450, with 160 cows even trucked down from as far as Charleville in western Queensland which has experienced a great growing season.
