Stunning weather and beautiful florals provided the perfect atmosphere for the Gunnedah Garden Club to celebrate its 45th birthday.

It was a grand celebration with more than 60 people attending the Gunnedah Rugby Club on Monday morning.

Surrounding town clubs were invited to join in with people accepting the invite from Werris Creek,Coonabarabran, Wee Waa, Tamworth and Narrabri.

They were welcomed to a large display of homemade morning tea along with flower arrangements and a plant stall.

Guest speakers included Robyn Bible from Sydney speaking about geraniums, David Fripp from the Central Coast with a wealth of gardening knowledge along with special guest zone coordinator Sandra Holmes.

Gunnedah Garden Club president Joan Harwood said it was a very successful day and enjoyed by everyone.

“We received lovely complements from visitors,” she said.

The Gunnedah Garden Club was first formed in 1980 when members would meet in homes and later at community halls.

Mary Grosser started the club all those years ago with about six members which has since grown.

While there are no original members left, it now has about 40 people sharing their experiences and joy for gardening. It was formed to give people interested in gardening a place to meet.

The Gunnedah branch falls under the Garden Clubs of Australia totalling about 700 clubs.
