Gunnedah gained bragging rights against Wauchope on the golf course last weekend, as Gunnedah did enough to win the shield that the two clubs strive for each year.

Although overall results are typically determined after each club hosts a round, this year’s competition hinged on last weekend’s results at Gunnedah Golf Club after the scheduled round in Wauchope several months ago was washed out twice.

Thirty-four players from each club took part across both days last weekend, with a 4BBB on day one and a 4-person Ambrose on day two while 18 holes were played each day.

Gunnedah won 12 matches to five while opponents enjoyed some friendly competition and shared plenty of stories and laughs.

Wauchope had claimed the shield last year following 17 wins to six at home, followed by Gunnedah winning 11 to eight on its home course.

The top three scores for Gunnedah last Saturday were David Sleath and Adam Taylor 48 points, Ian Jordan and Neil Thomas 45, and Peter Birch and Nicholas Berry 43 on a c/b. The top three for Wauchope were Bradley Maggs and Mick Wheeler on a c/b from Mitchell Walker and Paul Walker 42, followed by Greg Whitworth and Craig Salter 41.

With each group of four comprising a Gunnedah pair and a Wauchope pair on day two, the top three were Ross Laurie, Peter Koch, Luke Streater and John Bartlett 54.75 nett; Brad Baker, Paul Bennett, Adrian Guest and Paul Cook 58.25; Nicholas Berry, Bradley Maggs, Mick Wheeler and Peter Birch 58.50.
