Tamworth Gold was too strong for Gunnedah in last Sunday’s U13 representative cricket fixture at Donnelly Fields, as the visitors won by 80 runs.

The Tamworth side tallied 167 runs for the loss of eight wickets in its 40 overs, before Gunnedah lasted 29 overs without being able to build a decent partnership.

Gunnedah began well as Nate Partridge took a wicket with the fourth ball of the game, before a wicket to Nicholas Swain left Tamworth Gold 2-30 in the eighth over.

A match-turning third wicket stand of 87 unfolded before Clancy Carey departed in the 28th over, and then the rest of the innings spluttered along.

Jacob Anderson was the standout batter with 62 at number three, and bizarrely the Tamworth Gold innings included only one boundary while most of the runs came in singles and twos.

Gunnedah’s first four batters tallied only four runs as the hosts found themselves 4-13 after eight overs, before Marnee Walters scored 14 at number five.

Marnee briefly batted with younger sister Kallie who went on to top score with 29, which included the only three boundaries of the run chase.

Kallie’s dismissal left Gunnedah 8-63 after 19 overs, and then Arthur Graham worked his way to 20 not out.

Tamworth Gold 8-167 (Jacob Anderson 62, Clancy Carey 34; Harry Langdon 2-25) defeated Gunnedah 87 (Kallie Walters 29, Arthur Graham 20 not out; Cooper Morgan 2-3, Lincoln Baird 2-6) by 80 runs.
