Victory against Armidale at the Gunnedah golf course last Sunday wasn’t quite enough for Gunnedah to progress in the Encourage Shield.
The host club won 3.5 to 2.5 last Sunday after Armidale won 5-1 at its home course five weeks earlier, with both occasions involving six players per team.
Armidale consequently qualified for the next stage of the competition involving junior golfers, with Armidale and Gunnedah officials praising the youngsters for their efforts and sportsmanship.
Gunnedah golf pro Tom Major said, “Win, lose or draw, it’s great to see such good sportsmanship and new friendships being formed.
“We look forward to next year.”
