The nostalgic melody of Christmas cords will soon bring hundreds to Wolseley Park for a December tradition cherished by the community.
The Gunnedah Ministers Fraternal will host the Gunnedah Carols by Candlelight on Friday, December 5.
Hearts will be warmed by the school children singing and amazed by the talents of shire performers.
Keely James has brought together a group of skilled musicians, known as the Carols band, for the night.
As always, the Christmas spirit is the reason for people to have a picnic dinner among the stars, but the excitement includes activities before the music begins.
Face painting, badge making and glow sticks for purchase along with entertainment will keep children busy before the carolling begins at 7.30pm.
Food and drink will be available at the park, with a barbecue provided by Stirling James.
Always a highlight of the night are the fireworks that will light up the sky at about 9pm.
Gunnedah Ministers Fraternal’s Simon Waller gave reasons why people should come to the Carols by Candlelight.
“This is an opportunity for our community to come together to have a free concert and to be entertained by some very talented people in our community,” he said.
“As this is also organised by the Ministers Fraternal, we also want people to touch on what the original Christmas is all about.
“It’s about community but it’s also about why we have community.
Simon said it is an opportunity to reflect on how the culture around the holidays was shaped by the first Christmas.
He thanked their sponsors along with Gunnedah Shire Council for using the facilities without major costs.
As tradition, readers can find the carol lyric lift-out in the centre of this edition.
